What we collect
- Account info — email, name (optional), role (buyer / producer / processor / institution), and any address you save for pickup.
- Reservation data — which animals you reserve, the share size, drop-off and pickup details, cut-sheet selections.
- Payment data — handled by Stripe. We see only the last four digits of cards and the payment status, never full card numbers.
- Producer / processor profile data — farm name, location, certifications, schedule, capabilities, and the public bio you write.
- Site analytics — standard server logs (IP, user agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention.
Why we collect it
- To operate the marketplace — matching buyers with producers and processors, splitting payouts via Stripe Connect, sending lifecycle emails (booking confirmed, drop-off acknowledged, ready for pickup, etc.).
- To satisfy USDA and state inspection requirements that tie processed meat to a named animal and producer.
- To improve the platform — understanding which features drive successful reservations, what farms get the most followers, what processors deliver on time.
- To prevent fraud and abuse.
Who can see your data
- You — everything we have on you is visible from your account or available on request.
- The producer + processor on a specific reservation — they see the buyer's name, email, share size, cut-sheet selections, and pickup window for that one reservation.
- Service providers we use — Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Google Maps + Gemini (geocoding + AI search). Each receives only what they need to do their job.
- Government inspectors if requested as part of a USDA/state audit, in compliance with applicable law.
- We do not sell or rent your data to advertisers, marketers, or data brokers.
Cookies and tracking
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We use localStorage for things like saved searches, your pinned filters, and a referral code if someone shared one with you. We don't run third-party advertising trackers.
Public profile data
Producer and processor profile pages are public — that's the point. Your farm name, location, certifications, listings, gallery, and reviews show up in search results. Buyer profiles are not public.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account and reservation data as long as your account is active. Email hello@proteinoutfitters.com to delete your account. We retain transaction records for the period required by tax and regulatory rules (typically seven years), but anonymize them after deletion of your account.
Children
The platform is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be emailed to active accounts. Continued use after a change means you accept the update.
